A couple years back I decided I wanted to go to grad school (I'm working on my Master's in Criminology). So, I started to surf around the 'net for a school with a Crim graduate program... and my options became very limited.
Criminology is different than Criminal Justice Administration... which is what the majority of the schools I found on the west side of the U.S. have. CJA is NOT what I want. I'm more interested in why people commit crimes and how we can prevent it, not what the best punishment is for them after they do it. My choices for grad school then were somewhere on the East coast with an entire country between myself and my family and friends, or, go up north and become an international student at a Canadian university (for about 1/4 of the cost!), with only 8 hours and border crossing separating me from my loved ones. So... I chose the latter and I moved to BC.
I completed my coursework up there and then convinced the head of the Crim department to let me come back to Oregon to do my internship and write my paper (the internship I'm doing now... the paper comes in a few weeks... ugh!), so my fiance and I moved back to Oregon this past August. But I still feel that connection to BC... and, to be honest, I kinda miss it... but just a little bit, I am VERY happy to back in my home state!
However, next month Jacob and I are driving back up that way for a few days so that I can have a meeting at the school and lend my support to a classmate of mine who is defending her thesis (and get an idea of what I'll be in for this spring!). Any of you Vancouver brides/grooms wanna meet us for dinner? lol
